Carbon Reduction Plan

Our Commitment

At Kind Hands Caring Services Limited we recognise the importance of playing our part in tackling climate change and promoting environmental sustainability within the health and social care sector. We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions and operating in a way that supports a greener, healthier future for our clients, staff, and communities.

Baseline Emissions Footprint

As a growing domiciliary care provider based in Eastbourne, we have established 2024 as our baseline year for measuring emissions. Our initial assessments include:

  • Scope 1 (Direct emissions): Company-owned vehicles and fuel consumption.
  • Scope 2 (Indirect emissions): Electricity usage in office locations.
  • Scope 3 (Other indirect emissions): Staff travel (e.g., commuting and client visits), procurement, waste, and water usage.

Baseline data is currently being compiled, and we are working with external consultants to ensure accuracy and compliance with the UK Government’s Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 06/21.

Carbon Reduction Targets

We aim to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2045, in line with national targets.

Our interim goals are:

  • Reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50% by 2030.
  • Improve energy efficiency in office operations by 30% by 2027.
  • Encourage low-emission travel among staff through green travel schemes.

Our Planned Carbon Reduction Initiatives

To meet our targets, we are implementing the following:

  • Transition to Low Emission Vehicles (LEVs): Phasing in hybrid and electric vehicles for community-based care delivery.
  • Green Staff Travel: Promoting carpooling, cycling, and the use of public transport for eligible routes.
  • Sustainable Procurement: Working with suppliers who share our sustainability values and provide eco-friendly goods.
  • Energy Efficiency in Offices: Moving to LED lighting, using energy-efficient appliances, and switching to a renewable energy provider.
  • Digital-first approach: Reducing reliance on paper by using digital care systems and communication tools (e.g., Birdie and electronic care plans).
  • Staff Training: Incorporating sustainability awareness into our induction and ongoing CPD programmes.

Monitoring and Reporting

We are committed to transparently tracking our carbon footprint and reviewing progress annually. Our Carbon Reduction Plan will be reviewed and updated each year, with results shared here on our website.

Working Together for a Greener Future

We believe that delivering high-quality care goes hand-in-hand with protecting the environment. By integrating sustainability into our care model, we aim to create long-term positive impacts for our service users, team members, and the planet.
